EPS sandwich panels

What is an EPS sandwich panel?

A sandwich panel is an insulating core bonded between two steel facings. It forms the weather skin, the insulation and the inner finish in one component, so a building can be closed in with a single installation step instead of three.

Our EPS sandwich panels use an expanded polystyrene core, which keeps them light to lift and handle on site and makes them one of the most cost-effective insulated panel options for Canadian warehouses, agricultural buildings and cold rooms.

Inside the sandwich panel

Two steel faces bonded to an EPS core make one light, rigid panel for walls, roofs and cold rooms.

  • Steel faces protect and finish both sides
  • EPS core insulates and keeps the panel light
  • One panel replaces three separate layers

Sandwich panel types

Walls and facades

Wall sandwich panels

Flat or lightly ribbed faces with tongue-and-groove joints for clean exterior walls. More on insulated wall panels.

Roofs

Roof sandwich panels

Trapezoidal outer sheet that sheds water and carries roof loads between purlins. More on insulated roof panels.

Temperature-controlled rooms

Cold room panels

Smooth, easy-to-clean faces and thicker cores for cold storage and food processing areas.

Why builders choose EPS sandwich panels

Fast to install

Skin, insulation and finish go up together, which shortens the time to close in a building.

Lightweight

An EPS core keeps panels easy to lift and reduces the load on the steel structure.

Steady thermal performance

A continuous insulating core with few thermal bridges keeps heating and cooling costs down.

Cost-effective

Usually lower cost than PIR or mineral wool panels for the same wall or roof area.

EPS, PIR or mineral wool core?

Each core suits different projects. Here is how they generally compare.

General comparison only. Actual values depend on the specific panel; ask us for data sheets.
Property EPS core PIR core Mineral wool core
Weight Lightest Light Heaviest
Insulation per inch Good Highest Moderate
Cost Lowest Higher Higher
Fire performance Depends on panel build Better Best
Typical use Warehouses, farm buildings, cold rooms High-spec commercial Fire-rated walls

Questions about sandwich panels

What is a sandwich panel?

A sandwich panel is a building panel made of an insulating core bonded between two metal facings. It forms the outer skin, the insulation and the inner finish of a wall or roof in a single component, so buildings are closed in faster.

What is the difference between EPS and PIR sandwich panels?

The core material. PIR has a higher R-value per inch, so a PIR panel can be thinner for the same insulation. EPS sandwich panels are lighter and usually cost less, which makes them a practical choice for warehouses, agricultural buildings and many cold rooms.

Are EPS sandwich panels suitable for cold storage?

Yes. EPS sandwich panels are widely used for cold rooms and temperature-controlled storage. Core thickness is chosen according to the target temperature; tell us the room temperature and we will recommend a thickness.

What about fire performance and building code requirements?

Fire performance depends on the full panel build, the application and local code requirements. Ask us for the test data for the panel you are considering, and check requirements with your designer or building official before ordering.

Can panels be cut to the lengths on my drawings?

Yes. Send your drawings or panel schedule with your quote request and panels are supplied to the lengths your project needs.

Do you supply sandwich panels outside Ontario?

We deliver across the Greater Toronto Area and Ontario. For projects elsewhere in Canada, send us the location with your quote request and we will confirm delivery options.
