EPS insulation

What is EPS insulation?

Expanded polystyrene insulation is a rigid, closed-cell foam made from small polystyrene beads that are expanded and moulded into blocks, then cut into boards. It is light to handle, resists moisture and keeps a stable R-value over the life of the building.

Contractors use EPS insulation boards for continuous insulation on exterior walls, on flat and low-slope roofs, and below grade on foundation walls and under slabs. Boards cut easily on site with standard tools, and we can also cut them to size before delivery.

EPS thickness and R-value

EPS is a rigid, closed-cell foam that keeps its insulating value for the life of the building. Move the slider to see the approximate R-value for each board thickness.

Foundation walls

Insulation on the inside or outside of basement and foundation walls.

White EPS insulation boards laid under rebar mesh before a concrete slab pour

Under slabs

Insulation below concrete floors and slab-on-grade construction.

Questions about EPS insulation

What is the difference between EPS foam board and EPS insulation board?

Both names describe rigid sheets of expanded polystyrene. EPS insulation board usually refers to boards made for building insulation, while EPS foam board is also used for general purposes. For construction, ask for insulation-grade board with the density your project requires.

What thickness of EPS insulation do I need?

It depends on the R-value your project needs. EPS gives roughly R-3.75 to R-4.2 per inch depending on density, so a 50 mm board is around R-7.5 to R-8. Use the estimator above or send us your target and we will recommend a thickness.

Can you cut EPS boards to custom sizes?

Yes. Send the dimensions or drawings with your quote request and boards are cut to size before delivery.

Do you deliver EPS insulation?

We deliver across the Greater Toronto Area and Ontario. Delivery dates and options are confirmed with your quote.

Which standard applies to EPS insulation in Canada?

In Canada, polystyrene thermal insulation is covered by CAN/ULC-S701, which defines insulation types by density and thermal resistance. Ask us for data sheets for the products you are considering.
